Experiences in the prevention and screening of cervical cancer within Thailand

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the third most common cancer among Thai women, after breast and colon cancer, with an age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) of 11.7/100 000 women each year, as of 2015. Over decades, comprehensive national cervical cancer screening programs, research, and the HPV vaccination policy have gradually helped decrease the incidence of cervical cancer in Thailand. In 2017, the Thai Ministry of Public Health signed a memorandum of understanding with the Royal Thai College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to eliminate invasive cervical cancer from Thailand. This is a tremendous challenge for Thailand as a whole. The present paper reviews and discusses the experiences in the prevention and screening of cervical cancer in Thailand. © 2020 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics
