Abstract

The aims of this engineering project were studied and compared the efficiency of competitive adsorption of Pb2 Cd2 Zn2 and Ni2 present in quaternary mixture with single metal solution by uncarbonized sunflower seed husk and carbonized sunflower seed husk at 600 °C which particle size were smaller than 90 micrometer at pH 5. The experimental results shown that the adsorption percentage by unmodified sunflower seed husk was in order of Cd2 > Pb2 > Zn2 > Ni2 in single metal ion solution and Pb2 > Cd2 > Zn2 > Ni2 in quaternary mixture. For carbonized sunflower seed husk, the adsorption percentage was in order of Pb2 > Cd2 > Zn2 > Ni2 in single ion metal solution and Pb2 > Cd2 > Zn2 > Ni2 in quaternary mixture respectively. The adsorption data of carbonized sunflower seed husk were fitted with Langmuir adsorption isotherms for Cd2 and Zn~ . In other hands. Ni’ and Pb2 were fitted to Freundlich adsorption isotherm. For the uncarbonized one all metal ion adsorptions were fitted to Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The adsorption process was found to follow a pseudo-second order rate mechanism for single metal ion adsorption process for competitive adsorption Cd2 Pb2 and Zn2 were found to follow a pseudo-second order. In contrast Ni2 adsorption, it was found to follow pseudo-first order.
