Abstract

The purpose of this research is to compare reading comprehension and summary writing abilities of fifth grade primary school students before and after they have taught by the REAP strategy and to compare reading comprehension and summary writing abilities of fifth grade primary school students taught by the REAP strategy with those taught by conventional instruction. The Sample of this study was 2 classrooms of fifth grade primary school students at Watchanpradittharam School under the department of education, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. There were 68 students chosen by Purposive Sampling, 34 in the experimental group and 34 in the control group. The research instruments were lesson plans of the REAP strategy and conventional instruction, Reading comprehension ability test and Summary writing ability test. The data were analyzed by arithmetic mean (  ), Standard Deviation (S.D), Repeated measure MANOVA and One-way MANOVA. The results showed that Reading comprehension and Summary writing abilities of fifth grade primary school students taught by the REAP Strategy was higher than before receiving instruction and Reading comprehension and Summary writing abilities of fifth grade primary school students taught by the REAP Strategy was higher than those taught by conventional instruction.
